Important Update for Sitecore Google Chrome Bug

Wednesday, September 24, 2014 @ 11:25

Google has released an update to the Google Chrome browser (Chrome 37) that causes some undesired behavior to Sitecore’s pop-up windows in Sitecore Version 7 and earlier. Google has deprecated window.showModalDialog() method which Sitecore uses in these versions. You can view to official Sitecore knowledge base on the issue here: https://kb.sitecore.net/articles/581527.

Mozilla Firefox will soon be deprecating support for this as well. This is currently projected to happen with Firefox version 32.

If you have recently updated your Google Chrome install or have automatic updates turned on and have updated to Chrome 37, some of the links in your Sitecore application may not open. This issue is only affecting the Sitecore application desktop and is not likely to cause any issue with your website’s functionality.

Sitecore has released some patches to help client fix this issue.

  1. 1. Upgrade your solution to Sitecore CMS 7.1 or later.
  2. 2. Download and install one of the following patches depending on your Sitecore CMS version:

Note: The patches above are regular Sitecore packages. Open Sitecore Installation Wizard using Internet Explorer or another alternative browser which support modal dialog boxes and install the package.
